The Best Star Wars Quotes To Live Real Life By

Star Wars is an iconic franchise that has inspired so many people across the world. From the amazing lightsaber duelling scenes to the good versus evil storyline and galaxy-spanning scope, it's a franchise that thinks BIG.

It's no surprise then that some of the characters in the franchise have lines that are now etched in history - quotes and lines you can't help but remember and love.

There are, however, a LOT of great lines in Star Wars - especially when you consider the expanded universe. In the interest of this article, we're keeping our list of best Star Wars quotes to things said in either the main films or the TV series.

So, here are Saberzone's favourite Star Wars quotes in no particular order...

Note: to make this list interesting, we've tried to find quotes that have some real meaning - not just the funny 'red arm' quips - though we do love those too.

You have something I want. You may think you have some idea of what you have in your possession, but you do not. Soon, he will be back with me. He means more to me than you will ever know - The Mandalorian.

First spoken by Moff Gideon to the Mandalorian in their first encounter, this quote is far more impactful when the Mandalorian himself repeats it to Gideon later in the series. Echoing the quote and reflecting it back on Gideon shows us just how serious the Mandalorian is. He has come to rescue his companion and both we, the audience, and Moff Gideon, realise just how much of an unstoppable force the bounty hunter truly is.

If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine - Obi Wan Kenobi

Before the prequel trilogy, Obi Wan Kenobi was simply the mentor who guides Luke to his destiny and is dispatched by Darth Vader early in the OT. However, the mystical Jedi knight is all the more interesting due to his final moments - where he willingly allows Vader to cut him down. Once you know Obi Wan's full history, this moment becomes even more impactful. He's facing down his old student and friend, knowing he has now surpassed Vader on a spiritual level and that allowing him to kill him will only lead to Vader's undoing.

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate...to suffering - Yoda.

There's a distinct sense of tragedy to the Star Wars series. We see Anakin fall to the dark side as a result of a number of factors - but it's this quote by Yoda in The Phantom Menace that really eclipses what it is that makes Star Wars so relevant to real life. Just like the Sith, in the real world, fear can be a foul motivator that leads people to bad choices.

Compassion, which I would define as unconditional love, is essential to a Jedi's life. So you might say that we are encouraged to love - Anakin Skywalker.

Whlle this quote seems to ring hollow when you consider Anakin's eventual fate, it is a great reminder that while the Jedi are forbidden to marry - they do indeed feel love. Not only that, but the idea of compassion as unconditional love is something we can take for ourselves - humans that do compassionate actions are doing them unselfishly and out of love.

Remember, your focus determines your reality - Qui-Gon Jinn.

It is poignant that a character who features in the films for such a short time says some of the best things. Qui-Gon is a rare glimpse of a Jedi master back in the prime days of the Jedi. He is a master of his own emotions and his calm demeanour is reflected in this quote. A great line to live life by.

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.- Han Solo.

Has any quote ever summed up a character's attitude as well as this one? Solo's cocky attitude and gung-ho come across here - but the line does have dramatic irony to it, considering that later in the franchise Solo admits his own short-sightedness when it comes to the Force. Still, for the non-Jedi among us, a good blaster really is effective.

Master Yoda says I should be mindful of the future… but not at the expense of the moment - Qui-Gon Jinn.

Yeah - another Qui-Gon quote. But look, for a character who isn't in the Star Wars limelight for very long, he has some really good quotes that make sense in the real world. This one is a perfect allegory for the idea of mindfulness. Being aware of the future is different to being so worried about it that you miss what's happening in the present. A great lesson.

When you look at the dark side, careful you must be… for the dark side looks back.- Yoda.

Okay, okay - we keep using the same characters - but that's because most of the others have great little quips and one liners whereas Yoda, Qui Gon and Obi Wan all nail longer quotes with real-world relevance. This quote is virtually identical to another famous one from the philosopher Nietzsche. Fundamentally, the line is a lesson about the dangers of obsessing over negative subjects and emotions. If you become too interested in the dark side, it can win you over.

You will find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view - Obi-wan Kenobi.

A great piece of self-awareness from Obi-Wan here, commenting on the closedmindedness of the Jedi. However, it is also applicable to the real world - where social media and other influences mean people are often stuck in their own 'echo chamber' of likeminded people, limiting their ability to grow or see other viewpoints.

Do or do not, there is no try - Yoda.

We couldn't do an article about the best Star Wars quotes without including this. A simple, effective statement that implies more than it says - Yoda is telling us all that actions speak louder than words. If you're going to do something, you should do it rather than spend your life worrying or deliberating about it.

So if you've been putting off buying yourself a duel-ready lightsaber, maybe it's time to take Yoda's advice. No more 'trying' to see if it's worth it. Head to our lightsabers section, add to basket and DO.
